Following the directive of Governor Gretchen Whitmer to close Michigan schools, the Detroit Institute of Arts will close to visitors through April 5, 2020. The closure will go into effect at 4 p.m. today, Friday, March 13.

Given the rapidly changing nature of the outbreak, the DIA will carefully reassess the situation in the coming weeks and share updates as they become available.

While the museum is closed during this period and all events are cancelled or postponed, employees will continue to be paid for their regularly scheduled hours. Museum security and climate systems will be fully maintained throughout the closure, ensuring the safety of all objects. The safety of visitors, members, staff, and volunteers is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor new developments closely.
