Thursdays at the Museum

Every Thursday at 1 p.m., we welcome adults 55 and older for a special program including a film, lecture, art-making activity or tour followed by a complimentary coffee and cookie reception. Enjoy a different program every week.

Museum admission is always free for residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties and free bus transportation can be provided for any tri-county group of 25 or more.

Inside|Out brings high-quality reproductions of the museum’s collection to communities in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, and throughout cities in the state of Michigan.

Education Programs

We provide professional development to more than 1,500 educators each year, and free field trips and bus transportation for more than 65,000 students in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Behind the Seen

Presented by trained DIA teaching volunteers, "Behind the Seen" brings insight and engagement about the DIA's collection from the museum to your community. Talks last up to one hour and are available to adult civic and social groups, libraries, senior centers, and other community-accessible locations in metro Detroit.

To schedule a talk, contact Cynthia Blackburn at 313.833.1510 or BTS talks can be scheduled free for groups in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. For all others there is a $150 fee.

Please note: A screen and a room that can be darkened are required. Lecturers provide projection equipment.

Funding for Behind the Seen talks in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties is funded by the Tri-County Millage.

Other Partnerships

We are looking to create partnerships with non-profit organizations in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties to create arts-based programs and services to enrich the quality of life in our region. Click here to submit your organization's proposal. 

DIA Gives Back - Donation Requests

The Detroit Institute of Arts is pleased to support non-profit organizations and schools in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties with a voucher for four tickets to an upcoming film at the Detroit Film Theatre including complimentary parking.

Due to the large number of requests, we are only able to accommodate one donation per organization in a calendar year and only requests submitted online will be considered.

Requests are reviewed every two weeks for eligibility. If your request cannot be fulfilled, we will notify you via email.


• Non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) IRS designation

• Organization must be registered in Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb County

• VIP tickets will be used for silent auction or raffle

• Request must be received at least 30 days prior to the event
